Braved the snow today on foot, for a bunch of Hopkins-ing! 😝 Community Conversation with Representative @clyouakim at the library, and then spending the afternoon with friends and fellow council members lunching at @tibetcornerhopkins, and then chatting over wine at the @vineroom.co! Finished up the day with a @vineshop.co & @driskillsmarket stop! I always love a day with good company and getting some exercise and fresh air at the same time. 😍

I think anyone who attended last night's State of the City in #Hopkins can agree - boy, was that fun!! Thank you to the Taste of Hopkins restaurant participants, the @hopkinsartscenter4 for hosting, and Hopkins City staff for their work putting this together! It was just some really needed goofy fun to be together in community and have a few laughs - and a mouthful of fire for those of us in the HOT seat!! 🔥 (Congrats to CM Kuznia for achieving "clean plate club" status! 😝) I see great things happening in this city constantly, and 2025 will be our greatest yet!

What a wonderful morning honoring a man worth celebrating, at the 39th annual MLK Day Celebration in St. Paul. As always, I was happy to join my council sisters @kimberlycaresmn and Sue Budd. Thank you, Governor's Council for your work to make this program a success, it was a lovely event! #MLK

Last March, during a conference trip to Washington DC, I went on a night tour of the city with some other Minnesota mayors and city council members. We found ourselves at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. It was my first time seeing it. It was a beautiful space; a place for reflection and remembrance. One of the things I was especially drawn to, were the inscription walls that surrounded the space. And one of the quotes carved into the South Wall, was one I'd never heard before - it was from April 1959, from the March for Integrated Schools. I had to pause and read it several times. It was one of the most meaningful quotes I've ever encountered.

"Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."

I realized, standing there alone, letting that quote swirl around me like a wind - that this is how I want to live. Even the literal career(s) I've chosen in public service to two cities reflects humanity and commitment to equal rights - and I felt incredibly lucky to be in that place, in that moment, in this life, doing this work.

Today might be a dark day for America, but let us rise above and lead the lives that Dr. King guided us to... Find hope. Find light. Find humanity. Find love. Today and every day we can honor Dr. King by following his example and continuing to fight for justice for all.

My councilwoman bestie @kimberlycaresmn invited me to tour the Burwell House in #Minnetonka today and it was just the quiet, educational outing I needed after a long weekend of activity! The cozy coffee date after was nice too!

Today was full of activities; petting llamas, meeting princesses, going on a sleigh ride, hanging with Barry the Berry, and shopping at our amazing local businesses! ELECTION DAY! And you betcha, we voted! Today was not only an important day in American history, but one for my family. I was honored to be with my son in his very first Presidential election. I was honored to be with his fiancée, who cannot #vote in this country and deserves nothing short of the American dream. I was honored to be with my young daughter who should never be at risk of having her rights stripped away. And I was thinking of my other child, who was at school today, who lives as a person with a disability. We deserve a leader who will respect women, welcome immigrants, and doesn't mock disability. It is my privilege and honor to vote today - and I hope you all make your voices heard too. ✅🇺🇸

Another spectacular (spooktacular?? 😋) #Halloween in Hopkins event!! My kiddo and I had a great time as Wonder Woman and ballerina! We saw so many friends and neighbors, & the costumes were so fun! And a fun finish to the afternoon at one of our favorite downtown food spots - @hoagiesfamilyrestaurant! Thank you, @hopkinsbcamn & @jcihopkins!
